Kohler and Jaquar cover most of the Indian bathroom fittings market between them, but they are aimed at different buyers. Here is where each one makes sense.
The short answer
Jaquar is the stronger choice for most Indian homes on range, price and service reach. Kohler is worth the premium where design specificity matters — a particular basin shape, a particular finish, a concealed system that has to look exactly right.
Range and availability
Jaquar manufactures in India and carries an enormous catalogue across several sub-brands, which means there is almost always something at the price point you need. Kohler's Indian range is narrower and skewed towards the upper end, though it has widened considerably in the last few years.
- Entry level — Jaquar, comfortably. Kohler does not really compete here.
- Mid range — both, with Jaquar offering more variants per product.
- Premium — Kohler, particularly on basin and tub design.
Build and finish
Both use brass bodies on their main lines and both hold up well. The difference shows in the finishes: Kohler's brushed and matt options have been more consistent over time, while Jaquar's chrome is excellent and its coloured finishes vary more between production runs.
For anything that will be seen wet every day, buy the finish you can most easily replace in five years — not the one that photographs best now.
Cartridges and internals
This is where long-term cost is decided. Jaquar cartridges are widely stocked and cheap to replace, and most plumbers carry them. Kohler parts are more specific, which is fine while the product is current and awkward once it is discontinued.
Service
Jaquar's service network is deeper outside the metros, which matters more than it sounds. A dripping mixer in a tier-two city is a same-week problem with Jaquar and can be a several-week problem with an imported line.
Price
- A comparable single-lever basin mixer: Jaquar typically 30–45% below Kohler.
- Concealed shower systems: the gap narrows, roughly 20–25%.
- Sanitaryware: closest of all, and worth judging piece by piece rather than by brand.
How to decide
Specify the bathroom first — layout, surfaces, the look you are after — then choose fittings that serve it.
